Issue with external IP on a VM

Basically running Proxmox with a VM running Windows Server 2012.


The VM runs fine, everything connects fine, I can connect to the VM using the external IP (mysql, web server, game servers, ftp server, etc)


Now a while back I had the same setup on a different server (exactly the same, proxmox with a WS VM, only difference being an older version of Proxmox VE) and it had no issue using it's external IP to connect to itself. However this time it doesn't seem to like it.


On the VM if I use localhost/127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 (internal ip) it'll connect without a problem but if I use the external IP it just times out and fails to load anything (mysql, web server, ftp etc). However, if I ping the external IP or tracert it, it'll work fine (0% packet loss, avg response 0ms).


It's driving me mad, any idea what could be wrong or something I may not have set up properly?

That sounds like are having a problem with hairpin Nat or Nat reflection. What router do you use?

No idea, it's a dedi owned by OVH

That said, the last setup I was talking about with similar setup was also same place.

Any ideas?

Likely to be an issue/config on OVH's side? If so isn't that rather odd considering previous server by them worked fine.

Within Proxmox if I use the head command on a page on my web server, I get;

"500 Can't connect to ip:80 (Connection refused)
Content Type: text/plain
Client-Warning: Internal response"

So it seems as if nothing on the server can communicate using its external IP, not just the VM.

Resolved issue temporarily by using a subdomain.

Subdomain A record is set to the external IP address of the server, and using host file to redirect to internal address.
