What Happened?

I am unable to log into any of my VMs using a username and password after a system reboot. However:

  • I can still SSH into them using an SSH key that I had set up earlier.
  • I cannot log in to Proxmox VMs via the Web GUI Console (NoVNC) using username and password.
  • I can log in to the Proxmox Web GUI without any issues.
  • The VM configuration files are still in /etc/pve/nodes/pve/qemu-server/.

What Was the Last Change Before the Issue Started?

  1. I enabled Mullvad VPN for the first time on VM 104.
  2. As expected, I lost SSH access to VM 104 due to the VPN changing its network.
  3. I rebooted my entire Proxmox host.
  4. After rebooting:
    • I can no longer log into any of my VMs with username/password.
    • I can still connect via SSH key, except to #104!
    • I cannot ping VM 104, while other VMs are still "pingable".

Also:

  • I am not an IT professional, I use Proxmox at home as a hobby.
  • Any troubleshooting advice is appreciated as I am completely lost sitting here behind the screen before bed.

Interesting observation:

I ran passwd command and changed password on one of VMs which I had SSh key to but login w/ password did not work. It now works.

Before you say anything, I double checked if I have a correct password with sudo. Also, I could not change password without typing in the current password.

What gives?

I still cannot login to #104

UPDATE:

I noticed now that I cannot enter symbol ! in Proxmox GUI. Need to somehow input it.

SOLVED:

Librewold browser does not let you input "!" or anything SHIFT + number.

I have used Brave, logged in, disable mullvad and now it works.
