Hello,

we have an server which is running Proxmox 1.8. Plan is to Upgrade to 5.1.

As we only have Windows VMs i want to use Windows Backups to get baremetal backups.
Afterwards server will be wiped, Proxmox 5.1 installed and the VMs will be restored.

If something goes wrong a Wayback to 1.8 and restore of vzdumps whould be nice to have.

Is upgrading trough all PVE Versions the better way?

Additionally is there a new URL for
http://download.proxmox.com/debian lenny pve?
to get latest 1.8 if going through all PVE Versions is advised?

1.8, really? there is no official download link for this ancient version.

If you are an active subscriber, you can open a support request and we can provide/upload a 1.8 or 1.9 ISO.

Thank you for your help. Indeed this system is quite old. I will have a look at your subscriptions.
Is it possible to restore a vzdump-backup of 1.8 on a new 5.1 host? Or is there a incompatibility between different Proxmox Versions according to backup and restore?

The config format changed from 1.x to 2.x and higher. But honestly, no one tests here with such old releases.

But with some adaptions you can do the migration. Just test it out by yourself.
