Hello.

I did setup an iSCSI target on a FreeNAS system. I was able to connect to it from my Windows machine. How do I connect from Proxmox?

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you.

Datacenter -> Storage -> Add iSCSI

So far I haven't had much success with Proxmox. Documentation is very vague, I can't create basic VMs using shared storage. I added a user, then tried to change the password, and got an error saying that the user does not exist!! Whaat?? I just added the user!

Very disappointed in Proxmox!!

Don't be upset, you just need to learn the simple things.
VM can be created without shared storage and specific users, all these three entities are independent to each other and co-related depends on scenario.
Documentation are very clear, your question is ambiguous on the other hand, What are you trying to achieve ?

I'm not upset! I still stand by my comment that Proxmox Docs are superficial and they were written to have the minimum information, so that Proxmox can charge a fee for support.

I know that you can install a VM on the local drive, I've done that and it worked. What I was looking for was to install a VM on shared iSCSI storage. My configuration includes a Dell R710 which runs Proxmox and two Dell R510 which run FreeNAS. One R510 is a file and storage server, and has all the iSCSI and NSF shares, the other is for backups. I have been unable to connect to the iSCSI target from Proxmox. To connect from Windows is very straight forward, but I haven't found a way to do it from Proxmox. I am also interested to learn more about ZFS over iSCSI.

Like you said, I'm learning one thing at a time. Currently, I am using NSF shares for all the VMs until I can figure out how to use iSCSI.

If you have any tutorials on how to use iSCSI on Proxmox, let me know.

Thank you!

Well, if you think Proxmox Docs are incomplete in some ways, why don't you "Contribute" your time and make the document easier for everyone.
The Proxmox team developers are doing Wonderful Job. the information is all over the web you just need to Search.
Anyways, in that tune you won't get much support from anyone.
I didn't use iSCSi, but created one to test for you, and guess what? its works wonderfully ..
I don't know where you are making mistake, but here very basic step by step tutorial.

1-Create iSCSI target.
2-On Proxmox go to DataCenter->Storage>Add iSCSi
ADD.png

3-it will show up in Storage

4-Create Virtual Machine and use iSCSi as HDD
Hard-_Disk.png

5-install your OS !
Here it is ...

So, how do you get an IQN in proxmox to add to the target though?
I have the target added to proxmox, but I cant add the proxmox to the target?
