Hello, I've setup my iSCSI with authentication and done the Proxmox configuration using the shell with the "iscsiadm", also setup an lvm-thin on it. Since using the GUI did not allow for password and also added a dummy storage entry in the datacenter too. Is this ok?

Now I want to enable multipath too but the guide suggests to use the GUI to add the iscsi storage and some forum results start with this same step too.
Is this really needed?

No, you can configure your iSCSI/multipath completely via native Linux tools and then point your PVE to the resulting mpath device for LVM.
As long as you properly set everything up, you will be fine. Make sure you reboot your host to test the configuration is properly entered and you still have your storage after reboot.
