I have several resource pools and was wondering if I can put a vm in mulitple in any way.
In our case I have a production pool but also a DMZ one. they have some overlap but not all.

It would make for a granular way of setting things up and management.

Hi,

A VM or CT can only belong to one resource pool. For organizational needs you might want to use tags instead, which existed for a longer time, but are now also exposed on the web UI since Proxmox VE 7.3.

There are plans to integrate tags in some selections, like backup job virtual guest inclusion, so depending on your actual management needs, they might be also helping on that in the somewhat near future.

Oh yes that would absolutely help. backup is one of the things we have set up that way thank you for the quick response

Hi,

I use pools to run backups, like

names of the pools like:

daily_snapshot_nas: to send backups to a nas as a snapshot - in dumps folder
daily_snapshot_pbs: to send backuss to a PBS server to have it stored in chunks

Currently it is just possible to add VMs to one pool, that means I can either backup them using dumps to NAS(1) or sending it to PBS(2).

How can I achieve this now while we do not have tags.

Thank you and kind regards,
Marco

For now, you would need to avoid pools for this, are they are meant for assigning ACLs for a set of guests and storages, not as general grouping mechanism.

Until there's a broader filtering mechanism available you need to select the guests manually for each backup job, if you have lots of churn then a simple script may assist you here.
