So i have 1 disk (LVM proxmox) and 2 additional disks added to the box and mounted under proxmox. Other than samba is there some way to make those filesystems available to the VMs otehr than samba similar to Vmware folder sharing? May be a silly question.

Thanks

Well i came across this: http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/FAQ#How_can_I_assign_a_physical_disk_to_a_VM.3F

It suggests running "qm set <vmid> -ide# /dev/sdb" for example ???

Sure, that works (I was confused by another thread which want to access the disk from another host - sorry).

Also when i assign a disk to a VM (for VM disk storage) what exactly does the 'shared' flag do ?

You need to set that flag for NFS and ISCSI storage, which can be access from several hosts (It affects locking). Do not set that in your case, because there is only one host involved.
