Hey guys,

May i know is there a specific partition scheme we need to follow before install proxmox VE?

The OS for the server must be debian, right?

Thanks alot.

Hi resignation,

I will be install proxmox ve via non-cd method (using apt-get) ..

basically, we should have a large / partition reserve for the installation?

The idea of using the ISO installer is to have a perfectly suited partitioning with LVM and enough space in the volume group for snapshots.

If you install on top of existing Debian Lenny you need to think by yourself which partitioning schema and LVM configuration is right for you - if you are not familiar with LVM you should read the LVM documentation.

Hello,

Currently, my server partition is as follow:

/dev/sda5 222G 1.4G 209G 1% /
/dev/sda2 2.0G 36M 1.9G 2% /tmp
/dev/sda1 388M 22M 347M 6% /boot
tmpfs 501M 0 501M 0% /dev/shm

Is this fine for me to continue with the non-cd method(using apt-get)?

as I see no LVM you cannot use vzdump in snapshot mode. but you can install Proxmox VE packages and you can create VM´s.

Hi tom,

thanks alot.

What is the advantage of having snapshot and non-snapshot ?

If i would to do snapshot... i should have a secondary drive?

can this snapshot backup to remote server too?

you can make consistent backups of running VM´s.
see http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Backup_-_Restore_-_Live_Migration

vzdump is always executed on the localhost but you can manage the backup settings and schedule on the master (including the backups of the vm´s on the nodes).

Hi tom,

is it possible for us to dump the snapshot to a remote linux server?

yes. you can mount remote server via fstab and then you can use this mountpoint as your backup destination.
