Hello,

Is there a cross-cluster live migration feature available?

We operate multiple 3-node clusters and maintain one "empty 3-node cluster" that serves as our update/spare cluster. This allows us to rotate VMs from one cluster to another during major updates or release changes.

We use Ceph RBD storage.

Currently, we have a Bash script that performs an RBD snapshot and export. However, this approach requires shutting down the VM at some point before starting it up on the new cluster.

in theorie proxmox has all the features/tools already.

Thanks,
Mario

Hi,

well, there is the (experimental) qm remote-migrate CLI command. It's documented in the qm documentation, but there isn't any GUI integration or anything yet.

If you search on the forum, you can find threads w.r.t. - some with examples on how to use - to that. There's also e.g. this thread on debianforum.de, but it's in German unfortunately.

Hello Cheiss,

thanks for the fast feedback. I had a look at it on the 08.03.2024 and my internal test-notes where:

  • Man muss für den remote local storage VM Disks erlauben(Obwohl trotzdem auf CEPH migriert wird)
  • Die alte VM bleibt im "Migrate" Zustand vorhanden
  • Man muss jede VM Bridge manuell angeben
Did something change since then?
