is it possible to use sas for rbd share storage to get ceph service

Hi,

I want to make HA with ceph, is it necessary to make rbd storage as my share storage? or can i use other type of share storage like ISCSI ? but i only have SAS hard disk.

Shared storage, describes the nature of being shared between hosts. Depending on you setup you can use a variety of sharded storages, eg. nfs (different box), exported disks (iSCSI), Ceph, Gluster, etc... For HA a storage also needs to be HA, so if you have at least 3 PVE nodes with a couple of disks, then you can create a Ceph cluster.

But I only have 2x600GB SAS on my two servers , and the other server only has 1 x 1.8TB SAS.
and I get some of tutorial about Freenas to provide NAS (NFS). can I use it?

or, any different suggestion I can use to create my share storage?

For HA a NFS server is again a single point of failure, so you will not achieve true HA with a separate box. If you write a little bit more about your hardware, it would be easier to give some suggestions.

What type of workload do want to host on those servers? Are you planning to do some hardware upgrades?

like city level applications, Database and Website.

If it's necessary I will. do I need more hardisk or what? to get HA with Ceph

Hi,

Is this a G6, G7, etc? What kind of CPU you have? Do you have P4xx raid?

For best preformance you need same type HDD on all server (optionally with a separate boot disks what used only for OS, eq 2x 146 GB SAS).

HP DL380 what Gen ? IMHO you have too low RAM if you want to use CEPH OSDs and VMs on the same hosts. And you need at least 2 boot disks (raid1) for OS and 3 CEPH disks for VM storage.

@janos Gen 9, Intel Xeon E5-2620. For disk i only have SAS

@mbaldini so at least i need 3 disks for 1 server ?
