I feel stupid asking this but cannot for the life of me find a good answer. Looking for the appropriate way to configure hdd for data.

Setting up Proxmox for the first time on an hp g7 with a hw RAID (IE no ZFS). Proxmox and VMs will be run off an SSD and various storage will be on an internal (hw raid mirrored) 5TB hdd. All of the tutorials and info I can find either push to zfs or assume you already have an external NAS set up, which I don't and won't in the near future.

I have been trying to start out with lvm-thin but thinking I'm on the wrong track because I cannot get proxmox to add it in datacenter-->storage. Will get into steps taken, etc if this is the appropriate path but no use wasting time now.

Any direction is appreciated.

LVM thin should be the way to go if you want to use HW raid. Did you also create the LVs and VGs for that LVM?
