Intel X540(-T2) supported by v5.1?

hey all!

for an (urgently) upcoming customer project im looking for server-mainboards (maybe supermicro) and thought to maybe jump ahead a bit and take one with dual 10 GBit ethernet interfaces onboard (10 GBit BaseT).

proxmox v5.1 shall be the hypervisor (with a subscription).

i'm investigating – and having a hard time – to figure out if the Intel X540(-T2) is supported. searching high-and-low and can't find an answer to this question. read alot of threads all over the net. i get the impression there's no current version of these drivers included. is this true? or me too stupid to find it?
do i ask for problems when choosing a board with 10 GBit NICs? as an alternative option i could put in an additional 4x 1 GBit NIC (to get things rolling) and hoping to get these 10 giggers supported later on – but well, that's then just the 2nd best option (and maybe having spent more upfront for nothing in the end).

intels website lists v5.3.3 as current (still hot, 3rd of nov. 2017), the previous one is v5.2.4 (dated to 6th of sept. 2017). does someone know, which (if) version is included with proxmox v5.1 (debian 9.2)?

me (as not being a linux expert) can't verify that, if these NICs are supported or not. or maybe they can be supported with additional steps?
now would be the best timeframe for this project, to decide for (10 GBit) and later be happy to have it done from the beginning on. my customer would later on be happy, me also, all happy, all is good ;-)

i would appreciate any input/answer/help.

best regards
(and many thanks to the maurers brothers & team for this great hypervisor),

I think most people do 10gbit fiber: SFP+.
According to Dell so is the 10 gbit copper to hot for the motherboards.
If that info helps you I don't know.
We use intel x520 SFP+ without problems.

thx.
i see more and more motherboards with the copper variant equipped. maybe they got the heat/cooling right after all and so they look intriguing price wise.

so you say you have full 10 GBit speed with proxmox out of the box, right? no additional driver installs, etc.?

Please do not double post.
