Hello,

I have acquired a Topton firewall appliance with Core i7 1265U processor (12th generation Alder Lake) which has an integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics Max 1.25Ghz video card. Per vendor, Proxmox does not recognize this video card and latest working Proxmox version for this card is version 7.1.2. Questions:

- Is vendor correct on lack of support for this video card?
- Is there any work being conducted on supporting this graphics card any time soon?
- When will Proxmox possibly recognize my video card?

Currently, Proxmox panics with black screen before any graphics are displayed during the installation, with no discernible error message or code. Quite challenging for me, a newbie on Proxmox!

Thanks

Probably, the current Linux kernel used by the installer is 5.15 and your CPU/integrated graphics is probably newer than that.

I do expect Intel to be actively working on Linux kernel drivers, which may already be finished. Maybe ask Intel which version you need for basic functionality?
Try a recent Ubuntu Installer Live CD and see if you have proper graphics output. You don't need to install Ubuntu, just see if it boots properly.

The Proxmox kernel is based on Ubuntu's kernel. The next major version (PVE 8.0) will probably use the 6.2 Linux kernel like Ubuntu, which can already be installed after installing Proxmox.

The installer does not support all hardware that can run Proxmox. There are several other ways to install Proxmox, like installing Debian first or installing Proxmox on another system and moving the drives over to your system.
There are so many threads about installer problems on this forum. Please search it for work-arounds for your 12th gen Intel.

Thank you for the kind answer. I was able to install Proxmox VE but by recommendation of the manufacturer (Topton) I had to install version 7.1-2 which apparently does not check or somehow allows my graphics card.
The problem that I now have is that I cannot access the server. I will post another question on what are the most common reasons for this to happen and how can I debug the issue. Thank you!
