Intel ICH10R Raid Installation Question

I have an Alienware I would like to run ProxMox on.
Its quite a beefy box and it would be a shame to only run 1 server instance on it.

I created a RAID 1 with the Intel ICH10R BIOS prompt just like you normally would but when I go to install ProxMox is asked where to install itself and has an option for each one of my physical drives instead of the single Raid logical drive.

Any suggestions or explanation of whats going on.

After the installation finished I received a "no boot device" style message because it must have installed only on 1 drive.
Anyone know how to get it to install on the RAID or any other resolution?

probably is a "fake" bios-assisted firmware based, software computed raid, not supported by proxmox. If you want raid you have to buy a real controller, with on board ram and cpu and BBU (backup battery or analog solution) so you can safely enable write back and have very high performances.
Or you can try the "GNU/Linux software raid md" road, that someone seems has been successful be able to setup (search the forum).

I know its not a real Hardware Raid card but it is a real Raid controller chip (ICH10R) and should show up as a Raid.
Does this mean the only Raid controllers that will work with ProxMox are the $500+ Hardware Raid controllers?
If so that pretty sad considering there are some good controllers on the market that are not 100% hardware yet offer identical results under specific circumstances such as a Raid 10 or even up to a 6 Drive Raid 50.
Most hardware and software controllers perform nearly identical when your only running a Raid 0, Raid 1 or even a Raid 10 so spending over $500 without any performance increase just plain sucks.

Check out this card and the performance reviews for Raid0, Raid1 & Raid10 are nearly identical to its bigger full hardware controlled brother.

Check it out vs. the bigger 4320 version which runs the top of the line 1.2GHZ Intel IOP348
I seen a comparison somewhere on google but too lazy to search for it right now since I gotta figure this out.

What if I installed on the 1st Drive and then used the second drive to "clone" the VM's.
Is this possible to use the second drive as a live backup/clone drive ?

ICH10r is fake raid, not supported. If you want software raid you can think of using mdraid, but in any case do not enable this raid bios.

and pls note, the proxmox support does not help configuring softraid. but some uses it with success, just read some postings.
