Does the "Intel C602" chipset work as a hardware RAID controller?

It is not a hardware RAID controller but instead a firmware assisted RAID: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Matrix_RAID
In Linux that is supported through MD-RAID and DM-RAID. Personally I would never use it in serious production.
