We are in the process of upgrading our production virtual environment and presently we are testing new virtual environment technologies which include Proxmox. We are new to Proxmox and we would like to know the proper way to setup redundancy with this product. We have 2 server rooms which reside into 2 different building and connected through a fibre connection. The requirements are as follows.
Presently we are achieving the above by using drbd with single primary to avoid split brain. From I could understand the recommended method for data replication for Proxmox is ceph.
- Instant data replication between the 2 sites.
- Any VM can be started on either site.
- Setup can have 2 or more physical servers.
- Automatic fail over is nice to have BUT NOT necessary, bring up manual the VM on the other side is sufficient.
- The most important thing is the protection of data.
- The redundancy should afford to lose ALL related hardware/software on one site.
- The setup should not depend on internet to continue to function.
