Installing recent VMs on old Proxmox version

Here the Proxmox version is old, 5.2. We still don't have subscription...

Now we need to install a VM with Rocky Linux 9 -with UEFI-, which already uses kernel 5.x, but when creating a new VM in Proxmox of course it still says up until kernel 4.x.

Could we still go freely with the VM installation, or there will be problems and we need to upgrade to Proxmox 6, then to 7?

Why not just try it? UEFI support is first mentioned in 5.4 release notes, so you may have a challenge on your hands.

and why are you not updating your machine? Even if you would have a subscription, this old version is end-of-line and probably also end-of-support.

"<repository> no longer has a Release file"

Sort of. That error is most likely because the underlying old Debian version has moved to another URL because it is also no longer supported.
