Hello i have installed proxmox with Raid one. Now i don't need speed or i don't need to combine drives. I just need a backup in case my main drive fails. I'm not a network guy. I'm learning as i go. But my question is

Sense i have now Raid 1 redundancy So if anything is written on the proxmox server it will go to both drives at the same time?

Second question is if the First disk fails i c an use the backup second drive to run things. How can i insert a new disk and Do raid 1 without having to reinstall proxmox over again?

Thank you Joseph.

Hello,

1.- Redundancy is *not* backup. If you modify/delete/corrupt something R1 won't help you.
2.- If a drive fails in a R1 metadevice, it becomes degraded but can still operates, hopefully. You'll then have to identify the failed disk and replace it. Then start the resync of the metadevice.

If your hardware is hot-pluggable (means removed/added disks are taken into account by the I/O card without rebooting) all those operations are done on-line.

But remember point #1, you DO NOT have a backup when using R1, you still need to backup your VM/CT and your OS by yourself.

Hello Hollis thank you. I haven't done any vm work on my server yet so reinstalling os is okay. I will look at the link when i return home. I'm out of town for a week. My dad is sick with cancer. I need to make sure hes okay with his doctors. But when i het have i will take a closer look at that link. Thanks again.
