Hi There

I've got a 3.4 version installation that I want to update to the latest version.

When I built this ZFS wasn't supported as it is now so I built the ZFS for linux and setup my pool so that is a data store accessible for all the vms on the vm host drive.

Its configured this

1 x 2.5 in WD black drive that runs the proxmox install and has the vms on it.

6 x 3tb WD Green drives (firmware modified so the green spin down has been changed) in one zfs pool (hold_a)

I have the folders published via nfs and samba and the vms have mapped drives and can all access the same data.

Works really well but I want to get into some 3d pass through basically want to move my windows install to VM and the couple of games I want to play stream to my steam link, and need to update it 2 a later version of proxmox for it to work more successfully.

I'm just wondering how to manage the import of the pool and the best way to do it. I've got all the VMs backed up so happy to nuke the os/vm host drive and install a new version.

Will the install see my connected ZFS pool and ask to import it? or will I need to export the pool, disconnect all the drives and do the proxmox install, plug the pool back in and then import it?

If someone could give me some advise I'd really appreciate it.

the installer does not reuse any existing disks, if you want to do ZFS on root you either need to use the one system disk (WD black), add new disks or destroy and recreate your existing pool. if you just want to continue using your existing pool, that is no problem - just export it before reinstalling, and import and configure it afterwards. make sure to select the right disk(s) in the installer though - there are no safeguards against accidental formatting of the wrong disks! if you want to be 100% sure, you can of course disconnect the pool's disk before booting into the installer.
