Installed under ESXi

Hello,
I have tried to install proxmox ve under KVM and under ESXi.

Under kvm it works perfectly.

Under ESXi when I create an openvz vm from any template and I give it a bridged network (not venet) the vm can ping only its proxmox host.

Can you help me?

I am used to test Proxmox VE on VMware Workstation, never have any issue. So if the same template with veth works on KVM I assume its an issue on your esxi network config.

BTW, if you already have a dedicated server (esxi) why don´t you just install Proxmox VE? Running containers inside a virtualization layer makes little sense.

Hi! I have recently stumbled upon the very same problem.
The issue here is the vSwitch on the ESXi rejecting frames not meant for himself.

The solution is setting up the vSwitch to allow promiscuous mode.

FWIW I had to enable not only promiscuous mode but also forged transmits in a vSphere distributed switch to allow the Proxmox VE "guest" to see the rest of the network. I could NOT ping any other host or the gateway with only promiscuous mode enabled.
