Installation nightmare

Hi guys. I’ve recently been getting into IT, and I’ve decided I want to create a homelab with Proxmox (to boost my skills)

I have been attempting to create some bootable media (I tried Rufus and Balena etcher) but for the life of me, I cannot get it to work.

I’ve been using a 64GB Cruzer blade for the media. Every time I try to use etcher with the memory stick, I consistently get the error “Disk needs formatting” after I’ve used either etcher or Rufus, and the usb is completely unusable. I then have to completely clean and wipe the disk using disk part to be able to use it again. It also doesn’t appear on the list of bootable devices when access the boot menu on start up.

I’m a noob so any help is much appreciated.

Are you sure the USB drive good? Did you format it fat32...at least, that's what belenaEtcher needs to make a bootable drive?
However, your problem isn't a Proxmox issue...

Yeah. I’ve even bought another usb and tried everything. Any ideas what else could be causing the issue?

Out the box, new USB drives are already formatted fat32...if you downloaded Proxmox's ISO to your desktop, select it, BelenaEtcher will flash to make the bootable drive within 3mins...I never had issues using BelenaEtcher on my Mac to make a bootabke Proxmox ISO.
