Hi guys, I'm having an issue installation on a HP server. The problem is VGA mode, that use 75Hz refresh rate and it's seems the displays I'm using works on 60Hz (I try to use several dispay models without succeed).

Is there a way to modify something in the installation media?

Could some modification un GRUB.CFG file help me?

The server is inside a Datacenter so I could not test random things, I need to go there with certainties.

Thanks!

Yes, this problem has been discussed a lot on the forums lately with all "older" server models and it boils down to just install Debian and then on-top Proxmox VE.

Have you tried vga=ask and went through the different settings? Do you see kernel output before X starts?

Hi LnxBil. I didn't try that option. The problem is just after hitting the "Install Proxmox" option, the installation process begin and I'm able to see console output for a while. But when X start I get an error on the display something like "out of range" so I can't see nor touch anything.

Hi ITT, I tried iLO, but it seems that it need a License I do not have (it's and old server my client bought).

I think I will change vga=ask option and schedule a visit to the Datacenter.

Last option is unrack the server, try to install everything at home and then take the server to the Datacenter again.

Thanks guys for your kind and quick answer!

Regards,
Julian

*cough* yes *cough*

You can also buy an old license key for that. It comes with a booklet and the ilo 2 license is printed on top. Plug it in and you're good to go.
You WANT iLO to work, oh and you need an old XP with IE6 to run it :p

Greetings from NZ, I just found and confirmed A SOLUTION to the VGA problem on HP DL380 G7 and latest Proxmox installer.
  • Begin booting from USB ISO of PMVE
  • Press `e` to enter edit mode of menu
  • alter the line and remove all at the end like `text splash=something`
  • replace with more verbose ending like `text nomodeset gfxpayload=640`
  • press F10 and boot!
I had also tried 1280x1024 and 800x600, then figured 640x480, I guess you don't need the x480 etc.

Hi guys.
I ran into same problem as stated above during installation on a HP Proliant DL380 G6. Spent quite some time trying to find the issue. In my case the solution was to disable Vt-d in BIOS.
All previous attempts failed: adding "nomodeset" in boot parameters didn't help, previous version of PVE - no difference, upgrading BIOS - no luck, text based installer, debug mode, switching video cards - still no luck.

After disabling Vt-d every version of PVE is installing normally, no black screen, no hangups, no sudden problems with missing storage.

I hope some of You will find this information helpful.
