Hello!

We have just ordered a new server in a datacenter which has unfortunately no real KVM over IP, just serial-over-IP and no drive redirection,
so we cannot boot from an ISO file and install proxmox.
What we can do is boot from an rescue system (ubuntu) from which we can access the system.

The question is now:
How can we install proxmox from that rescue system?

Any help is really heavily appreciated!

Thanks a lot and best regards,

Chris

P.S.: You can also answer in German. Ihr könnt auch gerne auf Deutsch anworten, hauptsache wir kriegen das hin ;-)

I see no easy way for this in the current version. the easiest way is that you ask your hoster to preinstall Proxmox VE. E.g. OVH is doing this since half a year.

Tom,

thanks for your reply!
That is really bad news :-(
Any chance to realize the install with that rescue-system and debootstrap?

We could also pay some money for the installation (we are a little startup and don't have much but we'd like to value your time)...
And possibly there could be a HOWTO from this install for all the other users of root-servers... ;-)

Thanks a lot,
best regards,

Chris

Just one ISP and host's opinion, but it really shouldn't be that big a deal or real out of the ordinary for someone providing a server in a datacenter to physically stand there and install your OS of choice for 20 mins. Or you should at least be able to pay them to do it...

When someone has a VPS or server here in my racks I certainly install an OS for them and hand it off.

Well that's the same with us, but the customer for which we are doing this has rented that server and those guys won't do it (even not for some money)... :-(

So I have no other chance than doing it somehow myself :-(

Thanks anyway and merry christmas :-)

Chris

If the place where this server is hosted has such limited and inflexible policies and people and you can't physically go there yourself and do it, you should just take your business elsewhere. If the only option is to have them stick in some ubuntu rescue CD for you, that's so limiting that it's not even useful. If it's a big uncaring hosting shop they probably wont even care that you (or your client) are leaving and wont even try to save your account from what I've seen lately.
