Installable on unformatted SSD?

I want to install Proxmox on a Gigabyte BACE 3000 System (Celeron N3000, Intel NUC Style, fanless).
A brand new crucial 2.5" 480G SATA SSD shall be used.

Proxmox Boot USB-Stick boots on the system, but the attached unformatted SSD is not recognized. Installation process stalls on searching HDDs ...

I assume, that there is another problem (e. g. SATA pigtail cable of Gigabyte NUC), but to be sure:
Proxmox Installation USB-Stick is capable to handle the unformatted SSD and should install on it after partitioning and formatting?

Do you see the SSD in the BIOS? If it isn't visible there, check your hardware.

If it is, then it gets interesting ;)

Not visible in BIOS ("SATA - disabled" shown for the port, no BIOS option to change that, entry is greyed out) - seems to be a "Branded" Gigabyte barebone "Kyocera Minolta Evolution" boot screen and packaging.
Since the "Pigtail" for attaching the 2,5" SSD looks a little bit strange...it seems to me, that the system was perhaps a RMA returned device, that is sold again ...

The pigtail type tag is covered by a small piece of crepe tape ...
Perhaps the branded system was intended to be used as a diskless PXE Device, with crippled BIOS...
Unfortunately the M.2 Slot is of "E" Type. No SSDs for this type.
