Hi Community.

I'm starting to use Proxmox VE 8.2.

My major problem is that i cant use my selfmade pressed iso of debian 12.5 or 12.7.
These iso are working well on HYPERV 2012 to 2022 and on computer.
It's like proxmox dont see the preseed conf and load iso like it was a normal iso for install

Thanks for your help (perhaps a bad configuration of the VM).

Proxmox VE 8.2 up to date

Hi.
My preseed is in the debian iso.
I have put the preseed fil in a directory "files" at the root of iso and i call it for grub by argument
linux /install.amd/vmlinuz vga=788 --- auto=true file=/cdrom/files/tgcf_preseed.cfg quiet

I have never used this in an ISO before.I only know this from the PXE installation where the preseed files are filled in and the whole thing is then conveniently rolled out via the PXE server.

I assume the preseed file must be edit in HyperV before the installation using a special tool, or how exactly does this work? Thank you.

No.
In hyperv or in normal physical computer, you put the iso on usb or cd and it works without doing anything.

If this is just executed, I don't see what the difference should be with other hypervisors... do you get an error message, is there any log that would help us to reproduce the behavior?

if there is a place where I can put the iso image I can give it to you.
It's like proxmox completely ignore grub config modification in the iso

Hi,

I only took a short look at your problem - please excuse me.

Is your VM UEFI-basied? Maybe you have to deactivate secure boot in the UEFI-setup.

But think about, what fireon suggests to use cloudinit. Preseeding is a way to go faster on setup machines with the mindset of the 1990s. Take a coffee an read about cloudinit. Grab your pubkey and let it go.

Do you have a link to a good cloudinit intro?

I'm going to search a big tank of coffee, but i'm surprised that proxmox doesnt work like hyper or virtualbox. With a rapid search i've found cloudbase-i init, because i'm most a windows user than linux user. But in all the domain i want to optimise things.

It might be a better, start a new thread and write about cloud-init. I promise to answer.

I think preseeding is an automation of the "desktop-way" to install debian (partitions etc.). You`re logically approaching to this from the direction of desktop-virtualisiation (virtualbox, ..., hyper-v).
Proxmox is an enterprise tool. Amateurs can afford it because of the GNU Affero GPL, v3 licence. You can do most things the desktop way with proxmox, too - if you really want to suffer.

"Cloud-init is the industry standard multi-distribution method forcross-platform cloud instance initialisation. It is supported across all majorpublic cloud providers, provisioning systems for private cloud infrastructure, and bare-metal installations." (https://cloudinit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html).
Cloud init is much smarter, so very few of the pros will help you to fiddle around with preseeding.
