Install VM from USB device

Hello.

I have installed VMs either from ISO images -uploaded to Proxmox- and from physical DVD drive.
I'd like to install a VM now from USB device, for when I have one made with Windows media creation tool or dd-ed a Linux distro.

But I'm a bit clueless. Is it just enough to pass the USB device to VM?

USB passthrough should work.

This is a difficult moment. A simple method does not work out. So far, only third-party software for pass through of other types of USB devices can definitely help. For example https://www.flexihub.com/usb-in-virtual-machine/hyperv-usb-passthrough/
But these are all commercial options. Free programs work through a crutch. And they are rarely updated.

Why not the other way around, dd your usb to iso and use that in proxmox?
