Hi,

I have some lab Proxmox PVE servers that are currently not able to access the internet but I do wan't to be able to install updates.
Thus I am trying to find a solution to work this arround.
I do have a USB WIFI stick that is able to connect to the web. I have a WS2022 VM with USB passed through and in this VM I have internet.

The question is, what is the most elegant method to pass through the internet connection to be able to download updates.

I had the following ideas:
1.) Installing a HTTP(S) Proxy on the WS2022 VM, that has the WIFI USB Stick passed through.
The problem is, I don't see how proxmox PVE is able to connect through a proxy? Does it support any proxy configuration?
2.) Installing a VPN Server on the WS2022 VM and passing through the WIFI internet connection. I tried to do so but I am struggling with it. Currently only the virtual Proxmox LAN or the WIFI USB stick is working.
3.) Use and configure the WIFI Stick directly in the Proxmox PVE system. I do know that WIFI is officially not supported by Proxmox PVE but I saw that some got it running. But no idea how.

Has anybody done something similar?
How do you download and install updates, if you are in an firewalled network?

All ideas and help welcome.

Thanks.

There is a ready-made product for such a case. POM (Proxmox Offline Mirror) makes it possible to update systems that have no Internet, or are even completely disconnected from the network. Maybe this is the solution for you.

Thanks, I wansn't aware of this.
That could solve my problem with the proxmox updates.
But still, I was hoping to find a more general solution also for other VMs and other stuff, not only for Proxmox PVE.

A very long time ago I built exactly the same thing. At a location where cable Internet was not possible. I used an 4G modem.
In any case, IPfire works very well as a VM for that kind of things.
