Info about managing file storage

Hi.
I have a little hetzner server with 4 hd of 4tb each in raid 10.

I need to save files with a web interfaces running on ubuntu server , and I would you ask how better manage this files?

I can create a freenas instance with a virtual hd? (no dedicated hd hardare)
or simple assign a big virtual disk directly to the virtual machine?

if these files will be needed in other VMs or machines, shared storage will be easier to manage
