  Just tested out Oracle Linux Server 64 bit v5.11 and inspite of changing the repo links to vault, cannot yum update as it returns a python error. PVE 6.4-15 KVM using ISO from last link above.

What this is related to PVE in what sense? This is clearly a guest OS problem.

Sometimes we need to resurrect an old VM to help simulate a live physical setup to migrate data and functionality and hence this attempt. If any user has a template for LXC that has Oracle 11.2.0.4 installed in it with Apache Tomcat and webapps running it would be useful as most Oracle Linux Server 5.8 links are dead now, not even in the official mirrors.

Yes, this is primarily a guest issue, but the community can share experience on the use case of Proxmox in such instances. There are issues with control of Oracle Linux Server 5.x in PVE6+ as LXC/KVM. In KVM we have Mouse synch issues and no way to yum install gpm and it's ilk.

Why don't you have Docker container images for that purpose? I have built images from Oracle 9.2 upwards and they work fine. 9 has CentOS 4 (32-bit), OL 5 for 10, OL6 for 11, OL7 for 12, 19 and 21.

I never install GUI on a server, so no problem there.

I am trying to replicate an existing physical instance (KVM) that is in Enterprise OL 5u8 and that has GUI as well. LXC is the nearest light weight one for shared kernel hosting and Docker in PVE is another layer I do not want.

I too never install any GUI for Server OSes normally.

I don't think that works well, the KVM route is the one to go with full abstraction. Maybe change the hardware settings to an older version?
