Hello everyone,

We are currently evaluating a migration to Proxmox VE 9 from a VMware environment running on IBM storage arrays.

I understand that IBM offers a plugin that enables direct storage management natively from Proxmox. My question is: when using this plugin, do we still need to rely on LVM, or does the connectivity between the storage and Proxmox become completely direct?

I would appreciate your insights.

Is there some documentation for that plugin? It should show details about the supported protocols and features, right?

Hi,

Unfortunately, I don't have the documentation for that plugin yet; it was simply mentioned by the IBM team. I wanted to see if anyone has hands-on experience with this integration, and what the environment's performance has been like using this configuration.

Thanks.

IBM Storage arrays can be one of many different solutions/topologies. It would be useful to mention what model/topology product you're referring to. Having said that- it most likely is a block device so yes, lvm would still be necessary if you're not direct mapping luns to vms, or using a CAF.

Hi Alex,

You are correct, I forgot to mention that. The storage is a FlashSystem 7300, which is a block storage array.
