Hello forum,

trying to pt my old Intel I7 3770 IGP to an w10 VM.

GA-q77m-d2h with 32g Ram
Proxmox 7.2.11
PT working with other devices wuthout problems:
hda sound
Raid controller
dvb s2 controller
USB devices
Sata harddisk

but struggling since 1,5 years with the igp.

Wont upgrade hardware, as it is energy efficient and working like a charme

tested:
w7 - belonging to config getting device manager code 12 or others or bsod
w10 -> while loading driver igdkmd64.sys system handle exception

already bound hw id to vfio
blacklisted i950
de-grub-bed all video settings...

tested q35 i440 bios and efi
qemu 2-7

Someone got this managed?

thx
dirk

EDIT: Spent today 4 further hours... Without effort - really frustrating...

I am pretty sure: the host lets its finger from the gpu, as it freezes while booting (system boots in background) and when I boot a VM the screen goes black.

Set the host system to EFI and LEGACY
installed 3 VMs and tried to pt the gpu
all win10
one efi q35
one legacy q35
one legacy i440

pt'd the gpu either as the primary or a secondary gpu
set the machines to different versions between 2.12 and 7
tested some grub and kernel params
tested 3 kernels between 5.4 and 5.15-64

ever the same:
legacy guest and primary gpu: error vga region - vm does not start
secondary gpu: bluescreen when initializing intel driver (tested also on 2008r2 with older driver from 2015)

efi guest:
primary gpu no screen at all
secondary gpu -> bluescreen see above...

Really frustrating...

EDIT:
gave up and put a Geforce 1050 into the machine and passed it without any problem into the VM.
After disabling the IGP the power consumtion is not really more in idle
