Hello everyone
I am new to proxmox.
I have a machine already with freenas installed.
The spec is:
z77-d3h-MVP motherboard, 32GB DDR3 1600 Mhz RAM, i5-3570CPU.
It has 2 16GB USB as boot and 4 x 4TB in a RAIDZ1 config (similar to RAID 5 I think)
It has a couple of virtual machines running also, a low spec windows 10 and ubuntu server.
Ubuntu Server is for networking related activity including a game cache.
Windows 10 is to update my games overnight to my games backup on a samba through a the game cache.
The CPU apparently supports hardware passthrough.
I intend to put into the machine an intel quad 1 Gigabit nic and an old 100 Mbit/s PCI nic.
There are 2 sata ports left unused in the machine.
I have an old 60 GB ssd and an old hard drive to use.
What I want to do is:
Install the two drive and install proxmox on the 60GB SSD. The old 100M/B/s nic will be used as the proxmox network interface
Install a virtual machine, specifically the pfsense router to the hard drive with the intel quad nic passed through to it. I know this is doable.
Maybe give it a singe core and 2GB of memory.
The second machine I wish to create will be freenas.
I want to pass through:
The 4 sata ports with the 4TB drives.
The onboard NIC freenas is using at the moment.
The two USB boot drives.
maybe allocate 3 cores & 24 GB memory to it.
Will I be able to boot the virtual machine with the USB stick(s).
I do not want to reinstall freenas but simply boot it as is from within proxmox.
Is that practical on proxmox.
Finally, the network connections for proxmox, freenas & pfsense will be physical. I wish to use the traffic shaping options in pfsense and is needed to work correctly as I understand. This means a connection or two to the same physical machine which maybe seems silly to some.
So the quad nic will have the outside intenet, a connection to the freenas nic, a connection to the proxmox nic and the final to my switch.
Thank you for reading.
Please let me know if this is possible.
