I can't remember the file extension for backup files - can anyone help?

I recently developed bad sectors on my nvme drive and had to replace the drive. In the process of rebuilding my system I accidentally installed Proxmox on the wrong drive and formatted all my vm backups (oops!)

Now I'm running data recovery software on my backup drive trying to recover all my vm's and containers.

Can anyone please tell me the file extension of the backups Proxmox creates? Is it .zip? or something else?

VMs have the (at least one) extension vma and can be compressed to have another extension indicating the compression algorithm like lzo, gzip and zstd. For containers it's tar instead of vma.
