Round 1 of trying to install:
Boot from USB stick, Proxmox says it can't find CD-ROM for install. Yeah no shit there isnt one. You just booted from the USB so i know you can see it, now install from the USB please. Nope. Come on its 2020.

Round 2.
Install from CD
Spent 3 DVDs trying to burn the bloody image. I HAVE NEVER had an issue burning CDs until today (probably not proxmox fault, but it didnt help my rage).

Round 3.
Got it to boot from CD
Says cant install because there isnt a NIC. Excuse me, yes there is, its there, its lit up, it works. wtf!?

Round 4.
Whole new machine, (same model tho)
Magically it works!
Boots from CD, found the NIC, installed. Couldn't unmount the CD ROM at the end of the installer so it just went into an endless loop trying to do that (good job, guys. A+ for not debugging)

Round 5.
Finally booted. Logged in. Tried to go to the web admin panel and nothing.
The proxmox machine can't ping anything on the network. and nothing can reach it.
rebooted still nothing.

Round 6.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

What the hell am I doing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????

(btw. Just so you know my level of experience, I'm very familiar with Linux. I'm an IT Director and have been playing with computers since I was 5. Im now 21)

hi,

sorry for your troubles, maybe we can help you here.

for your current problem:
Finally booted. Logged in. Tried to go to the web admin panel and nothing.
The proxmox machine can't ping anything on the network. and nothing can reach it.
rebooted still nothing.

after going through all the installation process, at this point it could be a network issue.

following output could help debug the connection problem:
* cat /etc/hosts
* ip a
* ip r
* cat /etc/network/interfaces

and check for problems in network configuration[0]. you can post those here.

for the installation problems (informational):
ideally you should be using a USB stick, but the preparation is important[1]

if all else fails, you can try installing debian and putting proxmox on top[2] which usually solves issues with drivers or initial configuration.

if you have any other questions/problems please refer to our documentation and feel free to ask here in the forum for further assistance.

This fixed my hyper-v install issues (needed a node for voting on a cluster)

This is just a message, all blockdevices are checked for the ISO... Maybe start with telling basic stuff like what hardware (biard, cpu, nic, ...) How you prepared the usb pen drive and if you use uefi or not...
