Huge dump file size

While doing the backup of the VMs, one particular VM only shows a huge file size of the backup dump. Can anyone shower your assistant or kindly let me the cause here.

how large are the VM's disk, what's the underlying storage(s) and how much of the disks is in-use?

Hello Fabian, the VM's disk for this particular VM is 500G and uses with ceph storage. And with regard to the disks space usage, can you please guide me on how to check? on the Web GUI, it doesn't show the VM's total storage used.

You can check inside your guest. But it could also be that the space was used at some point, but wasn't freed on the underlying virtual disk. See the Trim/discard section here for how to make sure that is done.

As per your guiding, I have applied the discard on the hard disk, but checking the effect within these two days.. it doesn't show any improvement. And also I still wonder where the guest folder is found, can you help me with the path?

Did you issue a trim command inside the guest?

There is no folder, but rather a virtual block device which the guest uses. But you can check the usage from within the guest.

Yes, I have applied the below trim command on the guest;
- (zpool set autotrim=on rpool) with the cron job trim. hope it would be safe

While checking the space usage within the guest VM, the space usage is reasonable and doesn't seem to have an issue. But once I do backup, the dump file size shows an insane huge of 438 GB and that too on only one particular VM.
