How to safely change domain/FQDN?

Hello everyone,
I am still rather new to PVE but eager to learn.

I setup my server as best I could but during the initial installation step I define `pve01.lan` as my FQDN. I was now recommended to use the dedicated home.arpa domain instead.

But when googling, I was warned that it is not a simple or safe process.

Is this true or can I somehow cleanly change the domain without breaking anything? If existing VMs & LXCs are an issue, I could theoretically remove them and start fresh. If necessary.

Thank you
Alex

If it's a standalone Proxmox node it's fairy simple. Update /etc/hosts and if you use dns search /etc/resolv.conf.

Luckily I renamed that during installation giving it a "unique" id of pve01. I wonder why the default is pve rather than the more future proof pve01.
