Hello,

I've problem because i can't find any tutorial or documentation. I want to remove "master node of cluster" here is situation:

My DC:
-node1
-node2
-node3

On node1 i've created cluster (pvecm create)
On node2, node3 i've connected to node1 cluster (pvecm add)

Now i want to remove (old machine) node1 from DC - and i don't know what happens if i do it? I want to keep my cluster running (with node2,3) but i must to poweroff node1 forever.

Can someone explain me what i should do ?

Thanks,
Peter

in fact i have 4 nodes and i want to remove one

as i understood when i power off the first node other will by continue working in cluster and there will be no problem that there is no host with ip defined when i've add it to cluster (pvecm add NOWNOTWORKINGIP)?

Hi Peter, I think your situation is a clear cut one fortunately. Maybe the confusion part of it arises from the detail, there is no concept of 'master' node in proxmox, but rather, all nodes in cluster, can be used as a node from which you manage the cluster (ie, via WebUI for manage tasks across all node members / etc or via Cli suitable commands if that is your thing).

So the 'first' or 'second' or so forth is not a concern.

In a scenario where you have hardware being taken out of service, which you don't intend to replace to the cluster ever, then the steps as per the wikidocs,
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Cluster_Manager#_remove_a_cluster_node

should be relevant, ie,
- do this on any node other than the one being removed.
- basically you will 'banish him' and get his config removed out of the shared-cluster-filesystem-storage (ie, where all this good stuff lives in reality).
- and he will be never spoken of again in the remaining cluster nodes; forever forgotten

Then you can power it off. Possibly add in another node, different hardware /possibly the same IP address - same or different name, it really does not matter, you are basically just adding a new node to an existing cluster at this stage.

Ok, thank You for post. It's clear for me now.

But...I've procedered instruction from wiki

#pvecm delnode prox3
Killing node 3

node is removed and rest works well but on WebGUI i still have deleted node in list of nodes at left side...why?
