How to migrate LXC containers from non-Proxmox host to Proxmox?

Hello,

I've been pulling my hair out trying to move LXC containers out of an Ubuntu 18.04 (with LXC 3.0.4) and into Proxmox.

I have tried adding proxmox as a remote LXC server but it doesn't work. I've tried publishing the container image, copying over to Proxmox, and importing it: doesn't work "contains no configuration file".

What is the canonical way to import existing containers running on non-Proxmox systems into Proxmox?

Hello,

You can import the existing LXC container to Proxmox VE by compressing the LXC to tar.gz and importing it [0] as a template. see also this thread maybe helpful [1]
