Hi all,
I am running my HomeAssistant VM under proxmox, which works fine. Now I wanted to install a second HA VM for testing new ideas before implrmenting it into my "productive" HA. I used a backup of my VM (202) and restored it under a new VM (203). I can start it in Proxmox, but I can not access it via a browser. It got the same IP adress of the original VM so I have stopped the first one but even whith that, I can not access it via a browser. In the FritzBox I can see only the original one (IP and name, even whenh it was stopped and the "new" one is running).

Can I install a second VM this way or do I have to install it like a complete new VM?

Tx
Maik

You at least will need to change the MAC address of the second copy of the VM. It is under Hardware > Network. If your DHCP server also enters the client name into DNS you will also need to change the hostname inside the second VM (hostname command, possibly edit /etc/hosts).

To be able to test your new HA test-environment you will want all the devices/entities in your home to be able to connect & see your HA instance, as they currently do under the HA production-environment.

So what I would do (& have done it in the past) is: Leave everything in the new HA VM exactly the same. Then have both VMs (production & test) shutdown. Reboot your router(s) / switch(s) & wait for the NW to be settled & completely available in PVE. Then start that test HA VM & you should have a regular HA test-environment available.

Many thanks both for your hints. At the end I installed HA new in a new VM which was for me the easiest.
