How to gain access to Datastore?

Hello,

My PBS 2.4-7 has an internal 4TB SSD of which is used as the main Datastore for PVE backups.






There is a directory named "/datastore" in PBS.

Can I just restore this directory (or a LXC or an VM) from external copies and then things will be seen as normal from the eyes of PBS?

the full datastore itself is self-contained, yes. the vm/... directories only contain the metadata, just restoring them will not actually give you the corresponding data.

How should I backup the PBS backup?

PBS has a built-in sync feature that can be used for local or offsite replication. there also is built-in tape integration.
