How to create ZFS pool without loosing drive data

Hi,
I'm planning to install Proxmox 8 over 7. For now I've 1 disk created in a zfs pool (single disk mode). Now when I'll boot the new system, I'll have to create everything again, and I highly doubt creating a new zfs pool on the existing disk will erase the drive all together. How can I save the data? I dont have so much storage anywhere else for backup.

You always should have backups. Not enough space is not an excuse. If you don't got enough space, buy more disks...

You can upgrade PVE7 to PVE8: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_7_to_8
No need to install it again. But you still should buy disks first to have a backup before doing that.

You can only select whole disks in the PVE installer and the installer will wipe the whole disk.

And in case you are not talking about the rpool, because you created another ZFS pool later, you don't need to create a new pool. Old ZFS pool can be imported and mounted using the "zpool import" command and then be added as a ZFS storage in the webUI at Datacenter -> Storage -> Add -> ZFS..

Thank you for the tip. I almost missed the idea of import. Yes this pool was created later for additional storage only. And I'm buying this.
