Hello,

We got some user want to migrate VM from VMware to Proxmox, but they have question about stroage.
Where can change the stroage type from thin Provisioning to Thick Provisioning if the storage type supprot thin(Example:LVM-Thin, Ceph, ZFS).
it seem there should not any option to select when we create the new Virutal machine in PVE. Thank you.

Hi!

I'm not familiar how VMware exactly exposes these settings, but the concept of "thick provisioning" should equal to a volume on any Proxmox VE storage type that does not support thin provisioning and is not in the qcow2 file format. But AFAIK there's no option that I am aware of that allows to fully-provision a volume on a thin-provisioning storage, since that is the whole premise of these storages from the start.

An option would be to select any non-thinly-provisioned storage type and not use qcow2, i.e. just raw image files, or e.g. LVM, which allocates the full block size of the volume. To change from one to another, the volumes can be moved between storages for a VM later (e.g. in the VM's Hardware Tab).

Is there a specific use case to fully provision the volumes for the customer?
