How do you back up PVE and PBS servers themselves?

I saw that physical server backup is on the roadmap. Are there a set of directories I can backup and restore? I see the /etc/pve on PVE /etc/proxmox-backup directory on PBS, but are there more that I should include?

Also, what would the restore process be? Do a regular install and then untar the backup directoris over that?

Full /etc on both is recommended as that are even just MB'tes. Maybe you have own scripts in /usr/local/bin or docu in /root(/bin) ?

Ok, I'm gonna reveal my ignorance and general confusion about SSH keys in Proxmox.

Don't you absolutely need /root/.ssh if you are going to restore the machine to its original personality?
I had not thought of that. I don't know if that matters. However, there's no harm in including it in the backup set. Thanks!

Sure. I would like to know if I'm right or not.
I too would like to be able to extract a "profile" from a PVE host.
I would like to be able to restore it at a later time, perhaps to a different machine, and have it seamlessly adopt the role of the original in the cluster.
