Host in cluster using two different emails for notification

We have a two node cluster with a qdevice. The only user setup is the default root. At one point the root user email was changed due to an invalid entry. Just got a correctly addressed email from host1 related to an available update and a failed email from host2 going to the invalid email address related to the available update.
Notification target is root@pam
The root user has the correct email defined.
The emails came from host1@ and host2@ and not the defined sending email address in the notification target setting.
This is our first install and we have a lot to learn.

Do you need to receive notifications from specific email address?
If yes, you can configure SMTP in Notifications>Add>SMTP.

If I understand you correctly, the root user of host2 has the correct email address defined, but the notification is still sent to the wrong one? How did you change the root user's email address?

Could you post the contents of /etc/pve/user.cfg and /etc/pve/notifications.cfg?
