i reviewed the hooks sample script provided in the installation, however I am unsure as to where to place the hook script. For example, where do I place the script for run during pre-start?

Thank you for the information, it was helpful. One other question, using the qm set command can I specify pre-start vs post-stop or do both scripts need to be inside one hookscript?

You can only attach single hookscript. The phases need to be defined inside the script itself. The phase is supplied as 2nd argument.
