Hi everyone. I received a Minisforum ms-a2 today but I keep seeing posts about bad customer service and overheating etc. I'm contemplating sending it back and building something. My problem is I dont know a lot about server hardware. I've built gaming pcs but they seem to be a different animal all together. Every search for proxmox hardware leads me to articles that make it sound like the only logical thing to do is find some old hardware on ebay. I dont want to do that. I have great respect for those of you that can pick through the listings and create amazing homelab serverss that run hundreds of vms and containers at blazing speeds for $83.22. I can't (yet). I dont know enough to know what I'm looking at. I figure if I was going to pay $1100 for a Minisforum ms-a2 then I could put that money towards new hardware components with warranty that should be able to outperform the mini and leave room for future expansion. Am I crazy? I want to install proxmox for learning and be able to run vms and a bunch of containers and it still be fast. I have about a dozen docker containers now on an old PC but it's getting slow. I need more :). Any suggestions on mobo / cpu /memory (I dont care about ECC) would be greatly appreciated. I keep getting overwhelmed looking at the hardware options and prices. I'd love to keep the power draw reasonable too. Is this all a pipe dream? Thanks!
