Hi there,

I installed Home Assistant a few times now as a Proxmox VM and in every case the same issue occured:
the addon-store remains empty. I worked hard on the Home Assistant forum and found a lot of comments,
hints, advice and different installation methods and I gave them all a try - with no success.

To be clear: the Home Assistant installation is up and running but with an error notice "Connection reset by peer"
there is no connection to https://github.com/hassio-addons/repository/

What I found:
  • Home Assistant: connection to the internet works in any case
  • Home Assistant: updates can be done without any trouble
  • Home Assistant: no internet connection issues in the logs except supervisor log
  • From another VM on the same Proxmox host: can access all websites incl. github thru chrome browser
  • From another VM on the same Proxmox host: can manually download data from all websites incl. github without any problem
  • All VMs on Proxmox: work fine except Home Assistant with the above mentioned issue
  • All VMs on Proxmox: ping to all sites works fine
And maybe most interesting: setting up Home Assistant on VirtualBox on a bare metal Windows 11 machine works like a charm.
So there seems to be no problem within my network and especially no common DNS issue - my opinion.
Proxmox DNS ist set to my local router 192.XXX.XXX.1 (1. DNS entry) and 1.1.1.1 (2. DNS entry) and 8.8.8.8 (3. DNS entry)

Is there any idea or experience that may help me get it right ?

Unfortunately I cannot see from what you have written what the problem could be nor why Proxmox could be the direct issue, but all I can say is that my Home Assistant is running just fine under Proxmox. However, my VM is a migrated .ova that was originally running on Hyper-V but the transfer was flawless and has been running and getting updates for everything just fine for over 6months.

Currently I run 8 VMs under Proxmox, mostly Debian Bookworm. There is no issue with any of the machines.

I installed the Home Assistant in a VM trying various installation methods: running tteck's script, running a supervised installation, tuning DNS configs taken from HA community forum and so on.

No matter what I did, always same result: system up and running, updates possible. The only issue: the addon store remains empty. Despite the fact that "curl https://github.com/hassio-addons/repository" returns no error it's impossible to see the repos content in the addon store.

When I chosed the VirtualBox installation method with HA files from their homepage in the same network it works fine, no issue.

That made me think that there may be a configuration issue with PVE (which I may have caused) and hope to find somebody here with experience in especialley that issue.

Same here. Running VM freshly installed in Proxmox for more than a year. No issues with PVE.
I installed mine from a tteck script, though I've also done it myself in the past. YMMV.

I found the reason !

In Proxmox the MTU size of the vmbr was set to 1464. After removing this entry the store was not empty anymore.

I think it was me who did that in an early phase of PVE configuration due to a hint regarding an optimiation of transmission speeds .

None of my VMs was experiencing any issues until now except Home Assistant
