I checked the forum to see if someone had issues like this one, but could not find clear answers, even if a lot of people encountered similar issues.
I have a brand new Dell R350 with 4x2TB Ironwolfs on a PERC H355 setup as RAID 10, and 64GB of RAM.
This is a band new PVE 7 install, to replace an aging server, also on PVE 7.
The setup is the default LVM storage option.
I mounted the backup stockage (a Synology DS420+) that the old server uses on he new one in NFS, as I usually do, to do a simple restore of each VMs and be done with it.
Both links are 1Gb/s, on the same switch.
The first VM restore speed stalled at 7MB/s but eventually finished, I did not care much about that, since I was doing something else.
This morning I am doing the same with my 2nd VM, and this is where I realized that something is indeed very wrong.
At the beginning of the restore , for like 3 minutes, the Synology sent 103MB/s data to the server and I was happy. But all of a sudden the speed dropped to 7MB/s, and the Proxmox server showed a steady 25% IO Delay. It also crashed the 1st VM that became totally unresponsive.
All my bios, drivers, and PVE packages are totally up to date, and the Synology is up to date as well.
Is there any way I can troubleshoot this? I don't think a hardware RAID10 can not handle the gigabit speeds required for these operations.
