proxmox 7.1
VM gets shut down/ freezes ram usage goes in red while trying to install windows server 2019 and 2016.
allocated 24gb of ram cpu:2 sockets 3 cores and 300gb drive

seems like the only way to get thru windows install is to give it 30gb of ram which still goes into red and it really shouldn't need half of that

only VM..

host has 55GB ram 16cores and 4TB space so host has plenty of steam to go
only way to shutdown vm is to hit stop.
restart etc nothing else works when this happens.

UPDATE: After it finally going threw install proxmox reporting ram usage at 96% 28.6GB windows task manager shows 5%

ANOTHER UPDATE: Ballooning fixes reporting on VM Summary But When You Go On Host Summary it still shows it uses 22GB of ram while windows uses under to so that's a lot of wasted ram on nothing

do you see any error messages in the system journal (journalctl), dmesg or syslog files when this happens?
maybe you're running out of memory...

* how much RAM is given to other VMs?
* are you running the ZFS on the rootfs? (ZFS can use quite a bit of RAM)

I'll check the logs.

This is the very first VM nothing else on proxmox. Fresh proxmox install and first vm created if that helps any

okay interesting, in that case please post the VM configuration qm config VMID

how did you install PVE? did you use our ISO or installed on top of debian?

also: * are you running the ZFS on the rootfs? (ZFS can use quite a bit of RAM)

I'll get into the server this evening to pull some logs and look at cfg

And I used proxmox iso from a bootable usb drive
