HASP HL usb dongle

Hello,

I urgently need usb support for an HASP HL usb dongle.
These seem to work with virtual usb on a vmware server.

I tried adding the dongle to an existing kvm VM macine on the pve server, but when adding it the vm crashes completely.
i tried with both win2003 and ubuntu 8 as guest system...

any info on how to get it working?
is it in worst case possible to install vmware server on an existing pve server, so both coexist ?

as I have no such USB device here its not possible to test.

if you install vmware server2 or any other virtualization needing VT you need to disable the kvm modules (means only one can use the VT) on Proxmox VE.

But if you remove the KVM (rmmod kvm-intel and rmmod kvm) you can install vmware server2 but you can still use OpenVZ containers but not KVM. but this is only a workaround, I used this for some special setups where I need access to tape drives inside windows.

to get prepared for the installation of vmware server2:

apt-get install build-essential pve-headers-2.6.24-7-pve

now you can run the vmwareserver2 installer script.

We found the solution:

install a bare windows 2003 with all updates.
shutdown the OS.

then connect the usbdevice to the vm with the qm command:
(replace ID with VM numebr and 6.3 with your device ID's for lsusb)

qm set ID -hostusb 6.3

restart windows 2003 VM and ignore the new hardware found message.

download from the alladin website following drivers:

hasp4_driver_setup.zip (important not to use the SRM driver)

install the driver
windows will crash, then reboot the machine

then download the HASP_License_manager.zip

Install, and upon the driver install it wil stop with an error.
Continue and reboot the VM.

From now on enjoy your HASP LM Key in the virtual machine.
